Direct Evidence of a Graded Magnetic Interface in Bimagnetic Core/Shell Nanoparticles Using Electron Magnetic Circular Dichroism (EMCD)

چکیده
Interfaces play a crucial role in composite magnetic materials and particularly bimagnetic core/shell nanoparticles. However, resolving the microscopic structure of these nanoparticles is rather complex. Here, we investigate local magnetization antiferromagnetic/ferrimagnetic FeO/Fe3O4 nanocubes by electron circular dichroism (EMCD). The energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) compositional analysis samples shows presence an oxidation gradient at interface between FeO core Fe3O4 shell. EMCD measurements show that are composed four different zones with distinct moment concentric, onion-type, structure. These areas correlate spatially composition being largest surface decreasing toward core. results combination EELS mapping can provide very valuable information on inner its correlation to microstructure

EMCD - Magnetic Chiral Dichroism in the Electron Microscope
The discovery of energy loss magnetic chiral dichroism (EMCD) has created a new approach to element specific magnetic measurements with highest spatial resolution [1]. EMCD, which is detected in the fine structure of energy loss spectra in a transmission electron microscope (TEM) probes the same electronic transitions as its well established X-ray counterpart, the X-ray magnetic circular dichro...
متن کاملMagnetic Circular Dichroism in Electron Microscopy
Although the analogies between the electron energy loss spectra and X-ray absorption spectra were recognized long ago, the possibility to observe the magnetic circular dichroism in the electron microscope was demonstrated only recently. This technique combines the atom specificity with the high spatial resolution of the transmission electron microscope. Being a very young technique, there are s...
متن کاملDirect evidence of Ni magnetic moment in TbNi2Mn-X-ray magnetic circular dichroism
We have investigated the individual magnetic moments of Ni, Mn and Tb atoms in the intermetallic compound TbNi2Mn in the Laves phase (magnetic phase transition temperature TC ∼131 K) by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) studies at 300 K, 80 K and 20 K. Analyses of the experimental results reveal that Ni atoms at 20 K in an applied magnetic field of 1 T carry an intrinsic magnetic moment ...
متن کاملSimulation of magnetic circular dichroism in the electron microscope
As Electron Energy-Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) and X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) probe the same transitions from core-shell states to unoccupied states above the Fermi energy, it should be always possible to apply the two techniques to the same physical phenomena, such as magnetic dichroism, and obtain the same information. Indeed, the similarity in the expression of the electron and x-ray c...
متن کاملRole of magnetic circular dichroism in all-optical magnetic recording.
Using magneto-optical microscopy in combination with ellipsometry measurements, we show that all-optical switching with polarized femtosecond laser pulses in ferrimagnetic GdFeCo is subjected to a threshold fluence absorbed in the magnetic layer, independent of either the excitation wavelength or the polarization of the laser pulse. Furthermore, we present a quantitative explanation of the inte...
